Today, we celebrate the extraordinary life of a man who left an indelible mark on our hearts and the fabric of our memories. Julious Howard Moss, born on July 2, 1937, embarked on a journey that spanned 86 years, leaving a legacy of love, dedication, and unwavering commitment to his family and friends.
Julious was more than a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend; he was a beacon of strength, kindness, and wisdom. In the early years of his life, he embraced the teachings of Christ, confessing his faith and becoming a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Mississippi. Later, as he moved to Gary, Indiana, his spiritual journey continued at the Prayer House of Faith Church, where he served on the Deacon Board with dedication. His commitment to his faith remained steadfast when he joined New Vision Baptist Church, where he continued to serve faithfully as a Deacon.
Professionally, Julious dedicated many years of his life to the U.S. Steel Mill, where his hard work and commitment earned him the respect of his colleagues and friends. Later, he ventured into entrepreneurship, founding his own trucking company and leaving an enduring mark on the industry. He would often brag about visiting all 50 states! Julious believed in civic duty and spent several years as a poll worker and assistant Precinct Committeeman in Gary, Indiana.
His personal life was a testament to enduring love. Julious and his beloved wife, Evergene Moss, celebrated fifty-six wonderful years of marriage. They were blessed with seven children together and three stepchildren from their union, each reflecting the love and commitment they shared.
As we reflect on Julious's journey, we remember those who preceded him in death – his wife, Evergene Moss; his parents, Woodrow and Annabelle Moss; his son, Carl Gregory McKenzie; his sister, Annie Gowdy; and his brother, Walter Moss. Their memories will forever live on, intertwined with the legacy of a man who touched the lives of all who knew him.
Left here to cherish Julious Moss’s memories are his two brothers Harlem Reginald Moss and James Edward Moss (Pete), one sister, Bertha Diane Moss, two daughters, Doretha Polite (Brett) and Annie Moss (Kerston), and seven sons, Billy Winfield (Linda), Jeffory McKenzie (Gladys), Howard Dockery, Derek Moss, Donta Moss, Timothy Moss, and Tido Moss. Additionally, Julious Moss leaves behind twenty-seven grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom have been touched by his kindness, wisdom, and love.
Today, as we say our final goodbyes, let us not mourn the loss but celebrate the life of Julious Moss. May his legacy of love, resilience, and compassion continue to inspire and uplift us all. May he rest in eternal peace.
