Kathleen (Clayton) Nisby

Kathleen (Clayton) Nisby peacefully entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on July 4, 2026. She was 76 years old.

Kathleen was born on August 24, 1949, in Natchez, Mississippi, to the late Ameal and Ophelia (Green) Clayton. She was the youngest of six children.

During her childhood, her family relocated to New Orleans, Louisiana, where she was raised and completed her primary education. Kathleen attended Grambling State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. After graduating, she was employed by Xavier University of Louisiana as a secretary to the Vice President.

On August 31, 1974, Kathleen married Hershel Nisby. Together, they welcomed two daughters, Nneka "Nikki" Nisby-Harris and Jamila Nisby. Kathleen devoted many years to caring for her family as a homemaker. The couple remained united until Hershel's transition. 

In 2008, Kathleen and her husband Hershel moved to Dallas and soon after became members of North Dallas Community Bible Fellowship. Her faith in Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of her life. She loved sharing God's Word and had a genuine desire for others to know the love and saving grace of Jesus Christ. Kathleen believed that every conversation was an opportunity to point someone to Christ. Sharing the hope of the Gospel was not simply something she did—it was a reflection of who she was.

Kathleen found great joy in serving her church family at North Dallas Community Bible Fellowship. She faithfully taught Sunday School and the children's "Money Matters" class, where she helped young people develop biblical principles of stewardship and financial responsibility. Her love for God's Word also led her to participate in the Tuesday morning Bible study, where she enjoyed growing in faith and fellowship with others. Kathleen's vibrant personality and natural gift for connecting with people made the Theatre Arts Ministry a perfect place to serve, allowing her enthusiasm, creativity, and love for sharing the Gospel to shine.

Kathleen possessed a larger-than-life personality that was impossible to ignore. She enjoyed making people laugh, engaging in conversation, and often found herself at the center of every gathering. Her enthusiasm, expressive spirit, and unmistakable presence left a lasting impression on those who knew her.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith through those who will carry her memory forward: her daughters, Jamila Nisby and Nneka "Nikki" Nisby-Harris (Rufus), her granddaughter, Kinley Harris, her sister Shirley Clayton Jasmin (Thomas); and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family, and friends whose lives she touched throughout the years.

While Kathleen will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her, her family finds comfort in the promises of Scripture and the hope of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ. We rejoice in knowing that she is now in the presence of the Savior she faithfully proclaimed throughout her life.
