Kent Hedtke Obituary

Kent Magathan Hedtke was born on December 20, 1975, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, to Steven and Shelley Hedtke. He passed away at his home in Richardson, Texas, on March 10, 2021.

Kent graduated from Duluth East High School in 1994 and attended Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, graduating in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts in History.

Kent and Lisa (Sather) Hedtke were married July 19, 2003 at the Sather family home in Round Lake, Minnesota. They began their life together in Minneapolis, moving to Chicago in 2005, where their young family rapidly expanded to include three wonderful girls: Veronica, Racquel, and Marcena. They moved to Richardson, Texas in 2013 where Kent lived and enjoyed life until his death.

Kent worked for Half Price Books (HPB) his entire career. He took on many different roles as he moved his way up through the company. At HPB, Kent also made many lasting business and personal relationships throughout the country that were very special to him. This past year, his duty and loyalty to HPB made him determined to help the company successfully navigate the COVID crisis.

Kent was absolutely brilliant, authentic, honest, and true with a great capacity for love. His huge personality included a legendary sense of humor. Everywhere was better with Kent in the room. He was an avid runner. He loved music - collecting, creating, and performing. Cooking was an art to him. In his free time, when not watching Premiere League, you’d find him diving into a biography or other historical volume.

Kent saved his greatest passion, however, for his family. Everything he did, he did for his girls. He was an amazing husband and awesome Dad, the guiding force for his family. Importantly, he had become the person that he aspired to be and was living the exact life he wanted.

Kent is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Hedtke; adoring daughters - Veronica (14), Racquel (11), and Marcena (9); parents, Steve and Shelley Hedtke; mother-in-law, Sandra Sather; siblings - Shannon Hedtke, Nathan Hedtke, and Jessica Hedtke (sister-in-law); siblings-in-law - Kari and Lester Mitchell and John and Lynne Sather; five nieces - Adeline and Beatrix Woolford, Hannah Hedtke, Jada Mitchell, and Jaelyn Sather; two nephews - Shae Mitchell and Wilson Sather; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many dear friends. All mourn his passing and will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wallace and Margaret Magathan and Roy and Betty Hedtke; and father-in-law, John Sather.

A celebration of Kent’s life will be held in the coming months when family and friends can all be together. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial in Kent’s honor to a charity or cause of your choosing.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
