Lathon Lee Morris, affectionately known as "The Mayor of Morrisville," was born on April 16, 1964, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Grinnis Lee and Dorothy Mae (Felix) Morris. He was the youngest of six children. He was baptized in the Catholic faith at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church at an early age.
Lathon was a well-mannered and joyful little boy, with a special bond shared with his late sister, Penny. He was lively and outgoing, always eager to embrace whatever came his way. Known by family and friends for his intelligence, ambition, and enthusiasm, Lathon was a true go-getter. As a driven young man, he possessed a strong work ethic and faced each day with a positive attitude. He took great pride in his appearance, always ensuring he wore the finest clothes, especially his shoes.
Lathon was educated in the Orleans Parish school system having attended B.M. Palmer Elementary School, Charles J. Colton Middle School and Francis T. Nicholls Sr. High School. He was a proud “Bobcat” and a graduate of the Nicholls Class of 1982. Lathon later moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1985, where he built a life and resided until his passing on January 12, 2025.
On July 2, 1994, Lathon married the love of his life, Tyneeta. Together, they were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Maya and Sydney. A devoted husband and father, Lathon was always present for his daughters' extracurricular activities and was the ultimate Gymnastics & Volleyball Dad. He was their biggest fan and frequently created and led the cheers at their gymnastics meets and volleyball tournaments.
Lathon began his professional journey in Dallas as a welder before transitioning into the grocery industry, specifically the meat department. He worked for Kroger and Food Lion before joining Sam’s Wholesale Club, where he served as a Meat Cutter, Team Lead, and Fresh Manager for over 20 years. He retired in 2020, leaving a legacy of dedication and hard work.
Among many hobbies, Lathon was passionate about music, cooking, traveling, shopping, and home improvement projects. True to his native city, he was an avid Saints fan—WHO DAT! But more than anything, he cherished time spent with family and friends, always eager to host and bring loved ones together.
Lathon will be remembered for his outgoing personality, unwavering support, protective nature, and incredible sense of humor. His presence brought joy to all who knew him, and his loving spirit will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grinnis Lee Morris and Dorothy Mae (Felix) Morris and his siblings, Penny August and Emanuel Warren, Sr. (Jacqueline).
Lathon leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories with his beloved wife, Tyneeta (Collins) Morris; his daughters, Maya Penny Morris and Sydney Dorothy Morris; his siblings, Darrell Felix (Jeannetta), Sylvia Holmes (Henry), and Yvonne Phillips; his parents-in-law, Marvin and Lucille Collins; his sister-in-law, Ayanna Collins-Banks (Lamar); his brother-in-law, Marvin Collins, Jr. (Kesiha); and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends.
