Leslie Bartee Obituary

On December 26, 2023,  Leslie Ann (Knight) Bartee departed this life and entered Life Eternal with her Lord. She was born December 22, 1973, in Elko, Nevada, to Sophie and Chester Knight. As a Fullblood Native American (Shoshone), she was the youngest of four siblings, she was a true cowgirl.

Her life started as a blessing to her siblings - Libby (Reggie), Dana (John), and Mitch - because they asked God for another sibling. Leslie was the "Special Rose" of the family. She was 13 years younger than her oldest sister, Libby.

Leslie lived on a ranch in Lee, Nevada, where she loved spending time with her dad feeding the cattle and her animals. She attended Elko schools and graduated from Elko High School in 1992 . She was very active in sports such as the swim team and bowling team, and she played flag football while in school.

After graduation, she moved to Dallas, Texas, and attended Beauty School. She also went to Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. While there, she represented her tribe by being crowned NSU Native American Princess. Leslie moved back to Dallas and worked in retail for many years.

She met the love of her life, Richard Christopher Bartee, and they married on July 19, 2001. Someone very special arrived on October 26, 2010, Richard Ivan "Rico" Christopher Bartee.

Leslie loved her family and would do anything for them. She was a selfless servant who loved to cook, carpool, and cheer for her son and Wildcat Teammates as a proud Wildcat Mom. She also enjoyed spending time with friends. Her radiant smile was contagious and charming to encounter. Her life's purpose was to ensure that family traditions were kept yearly during holidays and big family celebrations. She always shared her warm spirit of hope and harmony and was friendly to everyone she met.

Those left to cherish fond memories and continue her legacy of love include her beloved husband of 24 years, Chris Bartee; her children - Rico Bartee, Cathrine Mariah Bartee, and Christopher Michael Bartee; her parents, Sophie and Chester Knight of Elko, Nevada; her siblings - Libby Moore (Reginald) of Dallas, Texas, Dana Wasson (John) of McDermitt, Nevada, and Mitch Knight of Elko, Nevada; several nephews and nieces; and a host of friends.
