Louis Carter Obituary

Louis Beouvis Carter, Sr. was born on March 14, 1937, as the first-born son to Bernice Morris and Alvin Carter. He passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020 at the Medical City Hospital in Dallas, TX.

His siblings included Arveria Dotson Walker, Herman U. Porter, Sr., Katie Porter, and Wilbert E. Porter, Sr. He followed his sister, Arveria, from Port Gibson, MS to live in St. Paul, MN during his adult life until 2019 when he moved to live with his daughter Sherrie, in Richardson, TX.

Louis was a star basketball and football player in high school and garnered the nickname “Sonny Boy” that he proudly kept throughout his life. Louis graduated from the Claiborne County Training High School, Port Gibson, MS in May of 1955. The following year, in 1956, he was married to the former Bertha Lee Edwards and to this union six children were born.

Louis’s first employment career was with Armour & Company for 25 years. He further extended his work life with Northern States Power Company and received many gas fitting certifications from NSP for his achievements. This career lasted another 25 years before he retired to enjoy life as a full-time fisherman.

According to his son Steven, he had an insatiable desire for fishing. He would go year-round whether night, day, cold, or hot.

Louis recently confessed Jesus Christ as God and as Lord and Savior over his life.

Family members that preceded him in death included his mother, Bernice Morris Landers; sisters, Katie Porter and Arveria Walker; daughter, Demetrice Washington; and his eldest son, Louis Beouvis Carter, Jr.

Sonny Boy’s family that will cherish his love and precious memories include his wife, Bertha Carter; their children: Valerie Carter-Pichon, Steven Carter, Sherrie Carter-Jackson, and Machelle Carter; his brothers, Herman (Orbra) Porter, Sr. and Wilbert (Betty) Porter; along with a host of grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
