Lozell Carter Obituary

Lozell Carter was born on March 10, 1930, in Kirvin, Texas, to Timothy and Odessa (Jefferson) Carter. Surrounded by his loving family, he transitioned in Dallas, Texas on February 16, 2025.

Lozell attended Shiloh Schools in Kirvin until the Carter family relocated to Fairfield, Texas when Lozell was a young child. He graduated from Dogan High School in Fairfield and enlisted by draft into the United States Army in 1951, serving as a U-boat driver in the South and North Korean War. During basic training, he was recognized and given the Committed Soldier Award. After his first tour of duty, he was called to serve two more times. During his third deployment, he was hit by enemy fire and ejected from his U-boat, causing him to suffer lasting injuries for which he never received recognition or reparation. From 1951 to 1958, he received several medals: the Bronze Star Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation Award, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. After serving eight years, Lozell was honorably discharged. He later earned a degree in Business Administration from Peters Carters Business College in Chicago, Illinois.

Lozell enjoyed a career at Texas Instruments, where he worked in facilities management. After almost 25 years of service, he retired to continue working at his church as a bus driver for the daycare. "Bro. Carter" delighted in safely carrying the children to and from school from 1990 - 2010.

At Texas Instruments, he met the love of his life, Francis Ann Moore. On March 19, 1966, he married his beloved Francis. A beautiful daughter, Yolanda Inett, was born to their union. The two relocated to Farmersville, Texas,  and returned to Dallas in 1981. They remained united in holy matrimony for 59 years until his transition.

Lozell accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior as a young boy. At an early age, he was ordained a deacon at Jones Chapel United Methodist Church in Fairfield, Texas. He continued to be steadfast throughout life. In the 1980s, he united with New Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. R.E. Price. There, he served on the finance committee and the deacon board. He also sang in the Male Chorus. Most notably, he served on the NMZ Credit Union Board of Directors.

Affectionately known as "Honey" to his loving wife, "Daddy" to his beloved Inett, "Uncle Dell" to his nieces and nephews, and "PaPa" to his grandchildren, he enjoyed many hobbies, including traveling, driving the daycare bus, and serving as a deacon. He most enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He delighted in seeing the world by driving and cruising, and he took great pride in driving the family to Branson, Missouri, Anaheim, California, and Lubbock, Texas, to be with his brother and sister-in-love. He also enjoyed the drives to Fairfield where he spent time working the family's farm. He especially loved his Harley-Davidson truck.

Lozell will be fondly remembered for his finesse, warm encounter, fervent prayers, and charisma. His loving spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Lozell was preceded in death by his parents, Timothy and Odessa (Jefferson) Carter; parents-in-love, Conaway Moore, Sr. and Pearl Ella Moore; sisters - Audrey L. Haynes, Maudean H.
