Major Patrick Lee Laverenz, United States Army (Retired), was born on August 15th, 1966, in Hiawatha, Kansas to Major (Retired) Roger Laverenz and Major (Retired) Theresa Laverenz. After attending schools all over the United States and West Germany, he graduated from Kileen High School, Kileen, Texas in 1984.
In August 1984, Patrick enlisted in the United States Army as an infantryman and graduated from basic and advanced individual training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He served with the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood and the 3rd Infantry Division in Schweinfurt, Germany. After being discharged in May 1988, he enlisted in the Texas National Guard as a Calvary Scout with the 124th Cavalry in Waco Texas.
In August 1988, Patrick enrolled in the University of Texas at Arlington, where he graduated in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. On May 15th, 1993, Patrick was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Quartermaster Corps. His military education includes the Primary Leadership Development Course, Quartermaster Officer Basic Course, Airborne School, Combined Logistics Officer Advanced Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, and Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) School of Cadet Command.
As an officer, Patrick served in numerous assignments at Fort Hood, Texas; Fort Lee, Virginia; Fort Polk, Louisiana; Columbus, Ohio; Camp Arifjan, Kuwait; and Taji, Iraq. His assignments include Assistant Logistics Officer for the 64th Corps Support Group; Petroleum Platoon Leader with the 53rd Quartermaster Company; Map Platoon Leader, Perishable Subsistence Platoon Leader, and Executive Officer with the 289th Quartermaster Company; Supply and Services Officer and Security and Operations Officer with the 142nd Corps Support Battalion; Commander of the 229th Field Services Company; Assistant Brigade Operations Officer for the Warrior Brigade; Battalion Operations Officer for the Columbus, Ohio Recruiting Battalion; Executive Officer for Special Troops Battalion of 3rd Army; Chief of Operations and Support Operations Officer for the 4th Sustainment Brigade. In 1995, he deployed to Cuba to provide humanitarian relief to Cuban and Haitian refugees. From 2004 until he retired from the Army, Patrick served three combat tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Patrick retired from the United States Army on May 30th, 2010. In July 2010, Patrick accepted a position as the Senior Army Instructor, JROTC at Berkner High School in Richardson, Texas where he continued to serve until his death.
Patrick was always busy whether it was planning for his JROTC unit, going out on the lake in his boat, practicing his marksmanship, water and snow skiing, scuba diving, and reading to relax. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Sachse, where he participated in the men's group.
Patrick is survived by his wife, the former Tracy Reynolds from Mineral Wells, Texas; his sister, Lisa; his mother-in-law, Drinda Reynolds; his stepsisters - Mary Anne, Katie, and Shawna; and his Yorkshire Terrier, Sophie. He was preceded in death by his stepsister, Jennifer; his father-in-law, Phillip Reynolds; and his grandparents - Dorothy and Harold "Papa" Laverenz of Highland, Kansas, and Vada and Fred Lange of Hiawatha, Kansas.
