Major James Edward Waller, fondly known as Jim, marched triumphantly into the arms of his Lord and Savior on September 3, 2025, at the age of 87 in Rowlett, Texas.
Born in 1938, Jim lived a full and spirited life defined by his deep love for Christ, his devotion to the Salvation Army, and his joy in the family God blessed him with. He was the beloved husband of Major Patricia Waller, and a proud father and father-in-law to James Jr. and Patty Waller of Mansfield, Connecticut, Jan and Eric Rodgers of Mooresboro, North Carolina, Jeff Gudgeon of Princeton, Texas, Angie and Jonathan Robertson of Sudan, Texas, Sonja Clark of Lubbock, Texas, Melinda and Randy Robledo of Borger, Texas, and Tricia and Bernard Tolan of Rowlett, Texas. His legacy of faith and love continues through his 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, who kept him young at heart and who will no doubt carry forward his humor and wit. He is also survived by his brother, David Waller. He was preceded in death by siblings, Louise Goff and Ray Waller
Jim was known for his quick smile, his sharp sense of humor, and his unwavering faith. He could turn a simple card game into a championship match, a round of golf into a ministry of laughter, and a football game into a full-blown coaching session from his recliner. A lifelong baseball enthusiast, he never lost his competitive spirit. He also kept his TV faithfully tuned to Fox News, reminding his family that “the world may change, but the truth never does.”
As a Salvation Army officer, Jim dedicated his life to service — preaching the Gospel, lifting the brokenhearted, and sharing Christ’s love through both word and deed. His ministry touched countless lives, and his example of steadfast faith continues to inspire those who knew him.
Above all, Jim will be remembered as a man of God — one who loved deeply, served faithfully, and laughed often. His presence will be dearly missed, but we rejoice in knowing he has heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
2 Timothy 4:7 – “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith”
