Michael Loyce Brown was born in Dallas, Texas, on February 19, 1962. The son of Robert and Bertha (Jones) Brown, he transitioned to eternity with his Lord on July 5, 2024.
Michael grew up in the Hamilton Park community in Dallas, Texas, where he attended Hamilton Park Elementary and Forest Meadow Junior High School. He completed his high school education at Lake Highlands High School, graduating with the Class of 1980. From 1980 to 1984, he continued his pursuit of education at The University of Texas at Austin, where he became a member of the esteemed brotherhood, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., along with his line brother, Terrance "Terry" Orr.
Michael was best known for his talents on the football field, but he was an even better human being off the field. He had many nicknames including “Big Mike, “Hound Dog”, “Downtown” and “Get Down Brown”. Anyone who ever met him felt an instant connection of love and laughter. He always had a way to make people smile. His hugs made you feel like someone wrapped you up in a giant warm blanket.
Those who saw Michael play football could clearly see his God-given talent. He was known for his brute strength on the field. He easily surpassed 100 yards per game during his senior year as a running back at Lake Highlands High School under Coach Jobob Johnson. Michael was a huge contributor to the success of the Wildcats football program. His ability and production on the field led to many Division I offers.
He was blessed to have the opportunity to choose The University of Texas at Austin and was able to play all four undergraduate years for the Longhorns. After his collegiate career at UT Austin, he had the opportunity to pursue a professional career with the Buffalo Bills and the Denver Broncos.
Michael accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park under the leadership of the late Dr. J. Lee Foster.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Brown; one brother, Perrin Rodgers; and one sister.
Those left to cherish lasting memories include his mother, Bertha (Jones) Brown; his daughter, Micha Phillips; his son, Kendal Yancy; two sisters, Robbie Brown-Anderson and Carolyn Brown-Pate; three aunts; four uncles; his close friend, Karen Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.
