Michael Paul Obituary

Michael Cecil Paul, affectionately known as "Mikey", was born on January 31, 1957, in St. James, Trinidad and Tobago. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend, whose life was marked by an unwavering commitment to family, community, and kindness.

Mikey graduated from St. James Secondary School and served the country for over 40 years in the Customs and Excise department. His career was defined by his diligence, integrity, and steady rise through the ranks. Mikey retired in 2017, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service.

On July 14, 1984, Mikey married the love of his life, Jennylyn Assam. Together, they celebrated 40 years of marriage. The two loved and nurtured two children, Minakah Assam-Paul (married to Andre Teemul) and Nikolai Assam-Paul. Mikey was deeply proud of his children and often spoke of his joy in watching them grow and flourish.

Mikey was an avid cricketer. His love for the sport took him around the world, forging lifelong friendships through his travels and dedication to the game. His love of sports extended beyond cricket to soccer, and he was always the first to lend a hand, whether it was helping with a match or offering support to a friend in need.

Known for his generosity, love, care, happiness, and entertainment, Mikey was a natural host who made everyone feel welcome. His home was always open, his cooler packed and ready to share a drink, and his heart was full of laughter. Mikey had an uncanny ability to make anyone feel at home, and his friends often became his family.

Throughout his life, Mikey’s kindness and giving nature earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him. He was a man of integrity, always putting others first and never hesitating to offer a helping hand. His memory will live on through the many lives he touched and the countless memories created through his acts of love and kindness.

Mikey was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Paul and Elsa Paul; his sisters, Rachel and Lisa Paul; his father-in-law, Harold Assam; and his mother-in-law, Yola Assam.

Those left to cherish fond memories include his wife, Jennylyn Assam-Paul; his children, Minakah Assam-Paul (Andre Teemul) and Nikolai Assam-Paul; his siblings, Maureen (Ken Saunders), Inge, Arlene (Wayne Joseph), Anthony (Joanne), Kathyann, Beverly (Paul Keating), Roger (Natalie), Lester (Paula), Camille, Libbi, Andre, and Joel (Melissa); his nieces and nephews, Karelius (Katherine), Khellan (Crystal), Ishmael (Samantha), Scott (Annie), Kimberly (Romen Tucker), Christopher (Amy), Ashleigh, Brandon (Sabrina), Anthony "TJ" (Adenike), Darrian, Liam, Amelia, Miguel (Jennifer), Zoie, Stefan, Gian, Dejan (Jada), Gervais, Enrique, Krystal (Christopher Johnson), Onika, Jerriel, Jean-Luc (Elizabeth), Mia, Devon, Noah, and Avery; as well as his extended families, including the Paul, Assam, Fullerton, Teemul, and Jardine families, and a wide network of friends, classmates, and colleagues.
