Mildred Betty Jo Isaac King was born Monday, June 25, 1928, to Elder Donald and Monnie Isaac at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas. She was the third of four children.
Mildred's kindergarten teacher was her mother’s cousin, who taught her at a school (Phillips Kindergarten) in the park. She received her formal education in Dallas Public Schools. Mildred attended B. F. Darrell Elementary (Grades 1-8) and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1946.
After graduating Mildred attended Huston-Tillotson in Austin for two years and then finished beauty school at Madam C. J. Walker Beauty School. She eventually received an Associate Degree in Key Punch from El Centro College and years later enrolled in Richland College for continuing education classes.
Mildred’s work history includes a variety of positions and career interests. She began working at Parkland in 1949. Mildred started off in the kitchen serving trays to patients. However, she was not satisfied in this position, so she decided to learn how to type. In 1954, she started working in the office as a secretary and worked for 38 years as a secretary. In her later years she enjoyed a fulfilling and rewarding career as a Childcare Teacher.
In 1985 she married the love of her life, Mr. Henry King and to this union no children were born.
As a child and in her youth, Mildred attended Pillar and Ground of Truth Church of the Living God. In the late 1980s, Sis. Mildred joined New Mt. Zion Baptist Church and remained a member until her death.
Mrs. King lived a long, adventurous, and vibrant life. She was a member of the Civic League and attended local American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Meetings.
After retirement, Mrs. King’s hobbies included reading, cooking and watching television. She enjoyed reading the Bible daily, cooking desserts and watching religious, and news channels.
Both parents, husband, brother, Verdell Isaac; sister, Ethelyn Isaac Reeves; niece, Regina Reeves and nephew, Reginald Reeves preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory: favorite niece, Cheryl Reeves; brother, Coydell Isaac (Grace); nieces: L’Tenia James and Coydelia Jackson; nephew, Ivon Isaac; niece-in-law, Sarah Reeves; grandnieces, Sabrina Partee and SaRatta Murphy; great niece, Storm Asenath Partee; special cousin, Deborah Hopes, family and friends.
