Obed Garcia Obituary

Obed Antonio Garcia was born on June 2, 1966 in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. He grew up in the Levittown, Puerto Rico area and attended his first grades in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. In the 6th grade, he began studying at a vocational school in Guaynabo, where he took agriculture courses, enjoyed and learned everything about animals, and developed his love for animals. Obed grew up loving God and participated in the youth society of the Disciples of Christ Church in Sierra Bayamón, where he took his first steps as a Christian. He also learned sign language and communicated with deaf and mute people.

Obed was very passionate about music since he was a young child. He loved every type of music, especially Christian rock, and he loved playing the drums. He received his very first drum set as a teenager with his own money that he saved up to purchase it. One of his favorite places to play the drums was at church. Obed moved to Texas when he was 18 years old. He continued working and pursuing his passion for music. As the years went by, he met the love of his life, Myrna Rodriguez. To him, it was love at first sight, but of course, in the beginning, she was not interested. She kept running away, but as fate would have it, he kept pursuing her, and she fell in love. They got married on October 29, 1993. As they began their journey in marriage, the two welcomed their first child, Stephanie, on April 9, 1994. Obed was so happy to have his first daughter because all he ever wanted was two daughters. They both worked hard to maintain their beautiful marriage. Three years passed by, and another daughter, Ashley, was born on July 30, 1997. Now, their family was complete. As the girls grew older, Obed and his family moved to Tennessee in 2001 and lived there for several years, continuing the journey of life. As the years went by, Obed started having medical issues, and his loyal wife always stood by him, taking care of him for years to come while he stayed at home, taking care of the kids.

By June 2008, they moved back to Texas, where they remained for the rest of their lives together. His younger daughter, Ashley, followed in his footsteps and became a drummer just like him. The one thing they bonded over was music. Just like with any other kids, his daughters grew older and blessed him with three beautiful grandchildren: Joseph Crawford was born on August 1, 2014, Amelia de la Fuente was born on April 29, 2018, and Luna Gierot was born on July 23, 2021. One of the many things he loved doing was spending time with his grandkids, who nicknamed him "Lolo". They love dancing to Michael Jackson's Thriller, drumming, playing games, going outside, and walking the dogs with their Lolo. Amelia would always pretend to play doctor to take care of her grandfather. As any other human being, Obed made mistakes and was not perfect, but in the eyes of his grandkids, he was the best thing ever. He will be fondly remembered for his funny personality and for how he could always make anybody laugh. He was a very quiet human being, never complained about how he felt, and always had a smile on his face.

Unfortunately, nobody can stay on Earth. So, on May 10, 2025, at 11:05, God decided to take him home. He lived 58 beautiful years, surrounded by love and family. He will live on through our memories of his love and his ability to make anybody smile. He was a driving force for his family, and he will never be forgotten.
