Omega Vaughn Obituary

Omega (Smith) Vaughn was born on May 26, 1934, in Laurel, Mississippi. Surrounded by her loving family, she transitioned to eternity on March 3, 2024, in McKinney, Texas.

A graduate of Oak Park High School, Omega enjoyed a career with King-Smith Printing Company. When she left the company in 1988, she went on to work for the Detroit Board of Education until she retired in 2004.

Affectionately known as "Boot", "Chicken", and "Head Fox-in-Charge", she married Shuffus Vaughn on July 15, 1957. The two remained united in holy matrimony until his transition.

A member of Triumph Church in Detroit, Michigan, Omega accepted Christ at an early age and remained steadfast in her faith. She enjoyed community service and was involved with the Detroit Northwest Activity Center in commodity distribution. She was also a breast cancer survivor.

Among many hobbies, Omega enjoyed Michigan football and baseball, as she was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers. She delighted in gardening, traveling, reading the Bible, and singing hymns. More than anything, she truly loved spending time with her family.

She will be fondly remembered for her fierce, generous, and God-fearing nature. Her loving and caring spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Omega was preceded in death by her husband, Shuffus Vaughn; her parents, Bennie Smith, Sr. and Beatrice Keyhea-Smith, her siblings - Mildred Horton, Willie Mae Spicer, Winnie Smith, Bennie Smith, Jr., Eloise Henry, Lee Edward Smith, Minnie Pearl Smith, and Stella Barford; and her stepson, Willie Vaughn.

Those left to cherish precious memories include her children, Shenita Barnes and Carmen Smith; her stepdaughter, Delores Fisher; her brother, Pastor Billy Earl Smith, Sr.; her sister-in-law, Jennie Smith; her grandchildren - Trishelle Smith, Vernisha Barnes, Shantel Barnes, Shontina Smith, Taishaune Barnes, Sr., Natasha Fisher, Jimmy Fisher, Jr. (Myi’a) and Stephfon Smith, Sr. (Felicia); 13 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; her goddaughter, Bertina Staples; and a host of nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Omega.
