Patrick ETIM Archibong popularly known as “Okonsin” was born on July 4, 1953, into the families of the late Chief Eusebius ETIM Archibong Inyang of Ifa Ikot Ubo, in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State and Madam Alice Okon ETIM, of Ikot Ansa, Qua Clan in Calabar Municipality of Cross River State respectively.
Young Patrick was enrolled as a pupil in the Sacred Heart Primary School, Calabar, in 1960, where he obtained his First School leaving Certificate in 1967. The same year, he received admission into the Holy Trinity College Mbiakong, Akwa Ibom State, where he sat for and obtained his West African School Certificate in 1971. In 1971, he received admission into Saint Patrick College, Ikot Ansa Calabar for his Higher School certificate. After which, he worked briefly in the Ministry of Agriculture, Ikot Effanga, Calabar. In 1973, Patrick received admission into the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, to study Veterinary Medicine, but his stay in Nsukka was short-lived. In 1974, he received admission to Clark Atlanta University, in Atlanta, Georgia. He later transferred to Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota, where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration.
Patrick always loved to work. His first job as a young adult was with the Ministry of Agriculture at Ikot Effanga in Cross River State, Nigeria. After graduating from Clark University Atlanta, in Atlanta, he relocated to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he got a job at Pillsbury Company. Within a year, Patrick went into franchise business with Coverall Commercial Cleaning Concept. He later relocated to Dallas, Texas, where he transferred his franchise to Coverall of North Texas. After which, he decided to earn a certification in teaching CPR. He taught for years until he became ill.
After Patrick arrived in Atlanta, Georgia, and stayed for a while, he married Natalyn and the marriage was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Miriam. After some years went by, he married Princess Gloria and the marriage was blessed with two handsome strong sons, Samuel and Patrick, Jr. Patrick was a very good and devoted husband and father. His family meant a lot to him. He loved his wife and children dearly. He made sure his children were always happy. He spent time with his children, teaching them all they could learn from him.
Patrick was born into a Christian family. He was a true Christian, who believed in the power of the Almighty God as the supreme power above all powers. He taught his kids to always hold onto their Heavenly Father in all they do. He always prayed with his wife and children. Even on his sickbed, he was still longing for the Word of God. He gave his children prayers to pray before taking their exams. He was a prayer warrior. He prayed every day and read the Bible every day. He knew God.
Patrick was a very sociable person and loved people. It didn't matter their age or ethnic group. He held conversations telling you everything about your origin. He amazed people with his knowledge about them. He loved his tradition so much and taught his sons and daughter to embrace it. He was truly a people person. He was a student president at the University. No matter where he entered before he left, he would have told you about things you never knew. He was very knowledgeable about the whole world, he read a lot. His hobbies were reading and music. He was always full of laughter. He was always happy around people.
Those left to cherish precious memories include his wife, Gloria Archibong; children - Miriam Archibong, Samuel Archibong, and Patrick Archibong, Jr.; 13 siblings; and a host of other relatives and friends.
