Phyllis Cephas Obituary

Phyllis Renee (Brown) Cephas, affectionately known as “Phyl,” was born on January 13, 1964, in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was a woman of faith, strength, and resilience whose life reflected her deep love for God, family, and community.

Phyllis graduated from high school in 1981 and went on to pursue higher education with dedication and perseverance. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Southern University in December 1984. She later completed Paralegal Studies (Litigation) at Southern Methodist University in August 1991. Continuing her commitment to spiritual growth and service, she earned a Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary in May 2013.

Phyllis built a distinguished professional career as a Licensed Professional Counselor and paralegal. From 1991 to 1997, she worked with dedication at Trammell Crow Company, where she demonstrated exceptional skills and professionalism. Later, as a Licensed Professional Counselor, she served individuals and families with compassion, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to emotional and spiritual wellness.

Her dedication to service extended beyond her profession. She was a faithful member of Pathway of Life Church and devoted her time as a caregiver for St. John Missionary Baptist Church. In 2011, she was honored as the recipient of the Support Service Award from the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program (DVAP), recognizing her commitment to helping others.

In 2020, Phyllis fulfilled another passion when she became a published author of the self-help book, Let Go and Grow to Your I Am: Next Level Discipline for Next Level Connections, inspiring readers to pursue personal and spiritual growth.

Phyllis enjoyed reading books and Scripture, traveling, spending cherished time with family, savoring good food, and watching movies. She lived her life beautifully and boldly—powerful, godly, resilient, and blessed.

She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Rose Mary Brown. Those left to cherish lasting memories include her daughters, Melanie and Alexis; her siblings, Angie, Alethea, and Joey; her nephews, Clinton, Andrew, Peyton, and CJ; her niece, Camilla; a host of extended family members, church family, friends; and all who were touched by her love and wisdom.

Phyllis Renee Cephas will be remembered for her faith, her strength, her service, and the powerful legacy she leaves behind.
