Ramona Star (Hudgins) Butler was born on November 27, 1955, to Edna Mae Walker and Don Doreuiz Hudgins in Dallas, Texas. She passed away on October 15, 2022, in Richardson, Texas.
Ramona attended Grand Saline High School and graduated from Alba-Golden High School in 1975. She went on to enjoy a varied career in accounting, management, and administrative areas. She worked for the City of Garland for many years, most recently as a department representative for Fleet Services. Previously, she worked in the insurance industry as an auditor-reviewer in agency licensing and contracting; as a registrar for a nonprofit organization aiding in the development of Christian church leaders; in accounting for an oil and gasoline property and asset management company; in retail management; and in home health care.
Ramona was a devoted mother, sister, daughter, niece, cousin, and friend that always had a kind word and a giving heart. She liked to remind us to be grateful for the time we’re given and that our blessings always outnumber our problems. She faced many hurdles and challenges throughout her life, but she never let that darken her heart. One of her favorite phrases was, “God is good...all the time.” She affected everyone she met with her warm heart, infectious laugh, and bright smile; she made those around her always feel loved, comforted, and optimistic.
A voracious reader and lifelong learner, Ramona was a writer, poet, hilarious storyteller, incredible cook, music lover, and crafter. She delighted in art, history, film, and theatre. She was a traveler and explorer – with the experience of adventures that carried her all the way from rural East Texas to other parts of the country, including living in five states. She enjoyed epic road trips with her family, and visits to the mountains, deserts, plains, and oceans from California to Nova Scotia. Yet, among all of the adventures, she shined brightest when caring for animals and people.
She was a faithful Christian woman who loved the Lord, her family, and her community. Each day, she walked with God and strived to live according to Psalm 23. She will be fondly remembered for her smart, loving, kind, generous, gentle, funny, and independent nature. Her courage and strength will forever be admired by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Mae "Francis" Walker; her grandmother, Jessie Adeline Saunders; her aunt and uncle, Maxine and James Sparacino; and numerous beloved family and friends of blessed memory.
Those left to cherish lasting memories include her daughter, Mindy Butler; her brother, Anthony Blair; her cousin, Debbie Binnall; and a host of family, friends, and fur babies that will feel the extraordinary loss of such a bright shining light that reflected hope and beauty in this world.
