Raymond Lee Manning Sr.

Raymond Lee Manning Sr., affectionately known as "Mr. Turkey," was born on February 15, 1932, in Marshall, Texas, to the late Earnest Manning and Ossie Lee Manning. On July 21, 2026, he transitioned to eternity to be with his Lord. 

A proud graduate of H.B. Pemberton High School, Class of 1952, Raymond answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army that same year. He faithfully served from 1952 until 1954, when he was honorably discharged. 

Following his military service, Raymond began a career with Dallas Power & Light (DP&L). Through dedication, perseverance, and exceptional leadership, he rose through the ranks into upper management—an accomplishment that reflected both his outstanding work ethic and his commitment to excellence. After many years of faithful service, he retired on November 1, 1992, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and integrity.

On September 5, 1961, Raymond married the love of his life, LouElla Twiggs. Together they built a home grounded in faith. The two remained united in holy matrimony until her transition. 

Raymond's faith was the cornerstone of his life. As a devoted member of New Mount Zion Baptist Church, he faithfully served as a Deacon and remained one of the church's devoted longtime senior members until his health declined. His quiet strength, servant's heart, and steadfast commitment to God were evident in the way he lived and cared for others.

Beyond the walls of the church, Raymond remained deeply invested in his community. He was an active member of the Hamilton Park Civic League and generously gave his time to numerous community events, including Juneteenth celebrations, Veterans Parades, and other neighborhood activities. He believed that strong communities were built through service, fellowship, and lending a helping hand whenever needed.

True to his nickname, "Mr. Turkey," Raymond became well known for his exceptional cooking, especially his famous fried turkeys and fish that brought family, friends, and neighbors together. He also found great joy in hunting, fishing, gardening, yard work, spirited games of dominoes and spades, and spending meaningful time with those he loved. Whether outdoors tending his garden or gathered around the table sharing a meal, Raymond had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome.

Raymond's life was defined by love and integrity. He was loving, caring, honest, genuine, loyal, and truly special. His wisdom, gentle spirit, generous heart, and infectious smile left an unforgettable mark on all who crossed his path.

Raymond was preceded in death by his beloved wife, LouElla (Twiggs) Manning; his father, Earnest Manning; and his mother, Ossie Lee Manning.

Those left to cherish lasting memories include his son, Raymond Lee Manning Jr., and his daughter, Tonyetta Yancy; his daughter, Emma McCrainey, and her children, Isiah Robinson, Alisha McCrainey, and Alvin McCrainey Jr; his daughter, Ella Manning Pennie; 13 beloved great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family members, nieces, nephews, cherished friends, church family, neighbors, and all whose lives were enriched by his kindness, wisdom, and love.

Raymond Lee Manning Sr. lived a life of purpose, faith, and service. His legacy is not only found in the milestones he achieved but also in the countless lives he touched through his generosity, compassion, and steadfast example. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
