Ernest James Holloway was born on July 16, 1950, in Marshall, Texas. He transitioned to eternity with his Lord on July 4, 2021, in Dallas, Texas.
Affectionately regarded as “James” by his siblings, "Fat James" by his childhood friends and family, "Uncle E" by his nieces and nephews, "Big E" by his sister-in-love, "Pops" by his children, and "Rev" by the community, Ernest graduated from Lincoln High School in Dallas, Texas. He began employment with the City of Dallas in 1980 and enjoyed a longtime career filled with promotions until he retired in 2005 after serving 25 years.
Ernest married his soulmate, Patti Faggett, on May 29, 1999. The two remained united in holy matrimony until his transition.
Among many hobbies, Ernest delighted in working out at the gym and later moving to his walks in the pool. He loved pouring into young men the importance of God and family. A man after God's own heart, Ernest especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Ernest accepted Christ at an early age. On December 18, 1988, at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, Ernest accepted his call to preach the gospel under the tutelage of the late Dr. H. L. Ward, his pastor and father in the ministry. He later united with New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where he served under the leadership of the late Dr. R. E. Price, Sr. He then united with Beginners Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Kenneth Pace. In his later years, he united with Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Donny Sadler.
Ernest will be fondly remembered for his servant heart, Christian example, and studied delivery of God's word. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Thomas; father, Joseph Holloway; and brother, Marvin Holloway. Those left to cherish precious memories include his loving wife, Patti Holloway; son, Pastor Michael Faggett (Rebecca); brother, Charles Holloway (Jeanette); sisters, Eva Holloway and Evelyn McCoy; mother-in-love, Dorothy Stewart; brothers-in-love, Reverend Joe Stewart (Flisha), Eric Stewart (Amy), and Fred Alexander; sister-in-love, Paula Stewart; godchildren, Chloe Armstrong and Joshua Griffin; special daughter, Sylvia Griffin; and a host of other family and friends.
