Richard Carroll Obituary

Richard Dennis Carroll was born on February 19, 1943, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. He peacefully passed away on June 28, 2024, in Garland, Texas.

Richard was the oldest of eight children. He was an Eagle Scout and a good athlete, playing baseball and football in high school at Lebanon Catholic High School. After a few semesters at Lebanon Valley College, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1962.

Richard was trained in radio intercept analysis and was assigned to duty in Pakistan and Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1966 and settled in Garland, Texas around 1974. He was employed in several businesses including restaurants, retail, carpeting, and home remodeling. In the mid to late 1970s when his children - Karen, Richard, and James - were young, he enjoyed coaching little league baseball and served as president of the North Garland Little League. 

Later in life, Richard met the love of his life, Lan Kennedy. They lived in Garland, Texas for 25+ years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family.

He was preceded in death by his son, James Michael Carroll; his daughter, Karen Christine Carroll Marx; his parents, Joseph John Carroll and Jean Marie Lawlor Carroll; and his sister, Margaret Mary Carroll Stoiaken.

Richard is survived by his wife, Lan Kennedy; Lan's son, Kim Kennedy; Lan's daughter, Wendy Nguyen Phan; and Wendy's children - Henry, Kristina, and Bryan. Richard is also survived by his son, Richard J. Carroll; his daughter-in-law, Aimee Carroll; his granddaughters, Nicole and Renee; his brothers, Joseph of Lewisberry, Pennsylvania, Dennis of Chevy Chase, Maryland, Eugene of New York City, New York, and Timothy of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; his sisters, Theresa Carroll Schweser of Arlington, Virginia and Helene Carroll Pascale of Barre, Massachusets; and a host of nieces and nephews.
