Robert Young Patterson was born on August 23, 1948, to the late Edward Patterson and Jessie W. Lavender, in Monroe, Louisiana. He transitioned to eternity with his Lord and Savior on December 30, 2023, in Rowlett, Texas.
After graduating high school, Robert enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served for six years and eight months before being honorably discharged. He later went to work for the Missouri Pacific and Santa Fe railroads. Robert also worked as a mail handler for the United States Postal Service until his retirement.
On August 8, 1967, he married the love of his life, Mary Jane Simmons. To this union, two daughters were born, Leia and Shirela. The two remained united in holy matrimony until his transition.
Robert accepted Christ at a young age and remained faithful to his faith. He was a member of St. Mark Baptist Church where he enjoyed participating in the Seniors Ministry, the Brotherhood, and Bible Study. He also delighted in "Sunday Fundays" with his family; hosting dinners, playing music, dancing, and watching television.
Robert was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Eric Pleasant. Those left to cherish precious memories include his wife of over 50 years, Mary S. Patterson; his daughters, Leia Pleasant and Shirela Patterson; his two granddaughters who were the apples of his eye, Erica Pleasant-Patterson and Robin Pleasant; his great-grandson, Robert EdPeter Patterson; five sisters; five brothers; two aunts; one uncle; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
