As we gather to celebrate the life of Roderick Glenn Harrien, we reflect on the colorful journey he embarked upon during his time with us. Born on February 6, 1981, in Gulfport, MS, Roderick lived each day with unique drive.
At a young age, Roderick accepted Christ and was baptized at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, Gulfport, MS. He completed his high school education, receiving his GED, and went on to complete a Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, and Heating (HVAC) program at Lindsey-Cooper Refrigeration School, Inc., Irving, TX. Roderick also completed the Cosmetology Program at Ogle School, Dallas, TX.
Later in life, Roderick rededicated his life to Christ and chose to be re-baptized at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Richardson, TX. He was well versed in scriptures and happily participated at church. Also, Roderick “preached” and shared The Word of the Lord to countless souls that would never have been reached through conventional means, from those incarcerated to the homeless.
Roderick, affectionately known as “Hot Rod”, was a man of many talents. Roderick was a true entrepreneur who could and would sell anything. He had an eye for fashion that set him apart, effortlessly distinguishing quality pieces, a trait that earned him the title of a fashion connoisseur among his family and friends. With an insatiable appetite for life, Roderick brought joy to those around him. His sense of humor, charisma and infectious laughter endeared him to many.
Roderick truly had a heart of gold. He cherished his family and lent a helping hand in his own unique way. Not to mention, he was also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan!
Never one to conform to conventional norms, Roderick lived life unapologetically, on his own terms. His journey was marked by challenges, but he faced them with courage, resilience, and determination.
Roderick was preceded in death by grandparents, Malcolm Caples, Bill C. and Louise Harrien, and James Brown; godfather, Roosevelt Keller. Though his grandmother, Vertye Caples, did not precede him in death, she died shortly after him. He is survived by his father, Roderick Caples and bonus mother, Phyllis Monique Caples; mother, Rose Harrien James and bonus father, Christopher James; grandmother, Ella Brown; godmother; his children, André (Nokuthula “Nikki”) Woods with Nicole Woods; Tracy Harrien, R.A. Harrien and bonus sons, Richard Cipriano and Dalvin Brown, with his forever love, April Shaw Medina; his siblings, Santana Dickens, Don (LaTisha) Harrien, Triherria Cole, Roshunda Harrien, Philliph Ryan Caples, and Monique Raquel Caples; and a host of beloved family members and friends.
Roderick’s memory will live on in the hearts of his extended family and friends, who will fondly recall the indelible mark he left on our lives. Let us cherish the moments we shared and find solace in knowing that he is now at peace. Rest easy, “Hot Rod”. You will be deeply missed.
