Sabrina Kemp Obituary

Sabrina Rochelle Kemp, 53, was born August 10, 1971, to Elmore Matthews and Shirley Kemp at Silsbee Doctor’s Hospital in Silsbee, TX.  She was reared in Silsbee, and Beaumont for a while by her grandmother Hazel Kemp (Madea).

She attended Silsbee Independent School District and Central High School in Beaumont, TX. Sabrina was a student of the class of 1989 and was a proud student of her Central NJROTC class.  Sabrina moved back to Silsbee and went on to work in Nursing facilities in the  Silsbee area as a C.N.A.  for a while until she found her passion and decided to further her professional career as an accomplished Cosmetologist. She had many clients and colleagues who adored her. Although she hung up her shears and curling irons there were some former clients who would not allow her to fully retire from taking care of their hair.

Sabrina gave birth on July 14, 1994, to her only child, Deahviyonte D’Whon “DD” Barkins. They both developed a close bond and a love for God. After accepting Christ in her life around 1997 Sabrina found a church home with Faith Temple Church of God in Christ. She served faithfully under Supt. Arthur C. Smith. Sabrina worked with the Youth Department tirelessly, and after strong encouragement, she began to sing with the choir, leading songs and joining the praise team. One of the church’s favorites for her to sing was, “I’m Blessed” by Reed’s Temple Church Choir. She got her deliverance and “praise on” when singing that song! Whenever there was a meal eaten at church Sabrina’s cabbage was at the top of the list at the request of the Pastor because she was an excellent cook!

After the Silsbee area was devastated by Hurricane Rita in 2005 Sabrina relocated to Dallas, TX  where she reunited with her mother and brother. Their once long-distance relationship became the most beautiful bond that a mother and daughter could imagine. They were each other’s best friend.

Although her location changed her love for God did not. She attended Great Millennium Baptist for a short time until she found her new church home at Lighthouse COGIC under the leadership of Pastor M. Clerkley.

There she attended prayer meetings in the prayer room faithfully. She has been an intricate part of the Lighthouse Intercessory Prayer Team for many years. She served as a principal prayer watchman to cover leaders and the church while working as a licensed Evangelist Missionary.

In 2015 Evangelist Kemp became the first Administrator Assistant to Missionary Jenice Calhoun, Storming the Gate Prayer Ministry, where she traveled the country and aided in conducting conferences, revivals, seminars, and online ministries.  Her gift as a “seer-watchman” was instrumental in many persons being delivered, receiving salvation, and in the mentorship of our youth. Lady Sabrina Kemp was a great asset and remarkable servant-leader to this prayer team ministry.

She matriculated through an International School of Prayer for Intercessory Training and received her certification in the Spring of 2023. She continued her biblical studies under the Mentorship of Minister Janice Patrick of The Potter House of Dallas Ministries.

After Sabrina’s Health started to decline whereas  she was not able to attend service,  she went as often as her health allowed. Sabrina's heart was with feeding the homeless. She would cook or buy food to feed them as often as she could. She worked as a caregiver for Rev. Moses Jones and later Mr. Glen Tipton. She and the Lord made a plan on September 21, 2024,  for no more pain, no more suffering and no more struggling on this side of the river. The saying "God doesn't give the hardest battles to His toughest soldiers, He creates the toughest soldiers through life's hardest battle."
