Sampson Denteh, aka Kofi Obeng, was born on the September 25, 1947, in Bima, a village near Asante Akim Konongo. His parents were Opanin Yaw Osei Shiaman and Mad. Mary Awo Nyantakyiwaa, both of blessed memory. Sampson Denteh was the fourth of the 10 children born to his parents.
He started his primary education at Obenimase Methodist Primary and continued at L/A Middle School in Obenimase. In 1974, he worked briefly with the Ghana Cocoa Board at Nobewam and later traveled to Nigeria to seek greener pastures.
Upon returning from Nigeria, he met Mad. Comfort Opoku from Obenimase. The two married and had four children, including a set of twins: Prince, Mavis, Bernice, and Eunice. He later traveled to Italy and finally settled in the United States. In 2005, he met Rita Hensley, and the two married on February 4, 2006. They remained united in holy matrimony until his transition.
Sampson was employed with Stanley Black and Decker until his health failed him.
Sampson was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and one sister.
Those left to cherish precious memories include his wife of 18 years, Rita; one son, Prince (Cecilia); three daughters - Bernice (Kofi) and Eunice (Augustine) of Dallas, Texas, and Mavis Obeng (Ralph) of Ghana; two brothers, Richard Ofosu (Theresa) of Italy and Edward Osei Kyei (Grace) of France; two stepsons, Brian Redmon of Colorado and Byron Redmon of Greenville, Texas; one stepdaughter, Omega Dew of Greenville, Texas; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
