Our beloved Sharlene “Shar” Andries was born August 11, 1952, to Thomas and Lalia Andries in Shreveport, LA. She passed away on June 11, 2024 in Rowlett, TX at only 71 years old.
Sharlene was proud of her 16 years of Catholic school, graduating from Bishop Lynch High School (Dallas) in 1970, and earning her bachelor’s degree in English from St. Edward’s University in Austin in 1974. Years later, she returned to school and earned a master’s degree in education from Texas A&M-Commerce.
She was a loving mother, family member, friend, and a dedicated educator.
She recently retired as a registered diagnostician from Dallas Independent School District, after spending almost 30 years in the Texas education system. Before becoming a diagnostician, she was a highly successful and celebrated special education and middle school teacher.
A warm, beautiful, joyful, funny soul, if she wasn’t doting over or bragging on a baby or enjoying time with her family, she was with her tight knit group of friends she’s known since college. Sharlene loved to have fun, and her infectious personality made her a memorable and loved person wherever she went.
She enjoyed summer and Christmas trips to Rochester, NY, and spring trips to North Carolina, Austin, and Oklahoma. Some of her favorite memories came as a People to People Student Ambassador Program chaperone, where she was able to travel to countries like England, Ireland, all over Europe, and her favorite, Australia.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and her brother-in-law Martin Shimkus. She is survived by her husband Joe Capuano and his children, Michael (Stephanie), Michele Charles (Mark), and Mary Jo (Chris), by her children Philip Caruso (Catherine), Tara DeNuccio (Mike), and Terie Brewer, and her siblings Brenda Shimkus and Tim. She has many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandchildren.
