Stanley Mark Deterville, Jr. entered eternal rest on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Whiterock Medical Center in Garland, TX. Stanley transitioned on the 48th wedding anniversary to his wife Patricia and the birthday of their daughter A’ngele. Stanley Mark Deterville, Jr. was born on October 21, 1951, in New Orleans, LA to union of the late Stanley Mark Deterville, Sr. and Catherine-Parquet Deterville.
Stanley was a 1969 graduate of Walter L. Cohen Senior High School in New Orleans, LA., where he played football and basketball. After high school Stanley studied at Dillard University in New Orleans, LA. Stanley became employed with the Orleans Parish Sheriff Office where he moved up the ranks to Captain until retirement. While working for Orleans Parish Sheriff Office, Stanley’s love of sports led him to play softball and basketball representing the Sheriff’s Office. Stanley and his teammates traveled nationwide to compete in Law Enforcement Officer’s tournaments. He probably spent more time traveling to play sports than he did working. He loved it! It was a party! In addition to competing in sports with his job, Stanley also played on an adult slow pitch baseball team named Express. Stanley’s family spent many Sundays at the park supporting him and his team.
In 2005, due to Hurricane Katrina, Stanley and his family evacuated to Mesquite, TX and eventually ended up residing in Garland, TX until his untimely passing.
Stanley was an avid New Orleans Saints fan and a great sideline coach that could call the plays before they happened. Stanley enjoyed gathering with family every Sunday to watch the Saints while playing Gin Rummy with his sister, brother, and Armand Jones. He enjoyed fishing and had some of his large catches mounted on the wall at his residence. From childhood, he had a fascination with aquariums and as an adult always had large aquariums in his home. Stanley also enjoyed boiling seafood and introducing Texans to what real New Orleans boiled seafood should taste like. Stanley loved family gatherings and Mardi Gras.
