Sylvia Elizabeth (Waddell) Moss was born February 15, 1941 to the parentage of Robert L. Waddell and Mary D Waddell (Baker) in Houston, Texas. She was their only child; the eldest of two siblings (Mary) and the eldest of four siblings (Robert).
Sylvia accepted Christ at an early age in the AME church. She received her early education at Jack Yates High School. She then furthered her education at Paul Quinn College (Waco) majoring in Education. She obtained her Masters in Marketing from Texas Woman's University.
Sylvia loved fashion, designing, and teaching. Early in her career, she spent much of her time as a masters level seamstress and designer, hosting fashion shows and creating new styles for her clients, family, and friends. She taught fashion design at Pinkston High School. She also taught middle and elementary students throughout her 30 year career with Dallas Independent School District.
Sylvia was a faithful member of St. James AME Church (Dallas) where she attended and served until her transition.
She was preceded in death by her mother; father; and sister, Diane Kyle. Those left to cherish precious memories include her children, Derrick Fonteno and Shuanise Moss; grandchildren: Anzale Combs, Ashley Austin-Hill (Derek), Zachary Fonteno, Sean Pruitt, and Jon Pruitt; great-grandchild, Journee Combs; sister, Robbie Waddell; brothers, Robert Waddell and John Waddell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
