Terrence Lynn Woods came into this world with a commanding spirit on September 18, 1949. He was born to the parentage of Gary Don Woods, Sr., and Madee Thompson in Amarillo, Texas. Surrounded by family and friends, he transitioned to eternity with his Lord on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, in Richardson, Texas.
In 1979, Terrence completed his Bachelor of Arts degree at Southwest Texas State University (renamed Texas State University in 2003) in San Marcos, Texas. He later earned his Master of Public Administration degree in 1991 at California State University in Long Beach, California. His professional career spanned 40 years of service in positions including Chief of Field Services for the State of Texas in Austin; EEOC Officer in Los Angeles, California; Employee Relations Manager with the City of Pasadena, California; Operations Manager with Baxter Healthcare Corporation in Memphis, Tennessee; Deputy Police Chief and Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Memphis, Tennessee; Director of Human Resources and Adult Education at LeMoyne—Owen College in Memphis, Tennessee; and Director of Human Resources for the City of Sacramento, California. He retired as Director of Relationship Management for ICMA-Retirement Corporation (now MissionSquare Retirement) in Washington, D.C.
Terrence was initiated into Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. in 1968. As Basileus, he, along with five of his brothers, chartered Eta Theta Chapter on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. An active member of Alpha Iota Iota Chapter in Dallas, Texas, Terrence celebrated his 50th anniversary as a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. in 2018. He also actively participated in the Men's Bible Study and Couples Ministry at Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church.
In his spare time, Terrence was an avid golfer and has been a member of the Pro-Duffers Golf Association and the National Negro Golf Association (NNGA). Throughout his life, he hosted golf tournaments sponsored by his employers, and he traveled across the country participating in tournament play. He was proud of his golf awards lovingly displayed throughout his home.
Terrence was preceded in death by his parents, Gary Don Woods, Sr., and Madee (Thompson) Woods; sisters, Gloria Woods and Patricia Woods; and brother, Gary Don Woods, Jr. Those left to cherish precious and lasting memories include his wife to whom he was an amazing and beloved husband, Janice Hughlett Brown-Woods; four children to whom he was a loving father - Terrence Lynn Woods, Jr. of Houston, Texas, Jessica LeNease Brown of Sacramento, California, Justina Lynette Brown of Dallas, Texas, and Jordan Hamilton Brown of Dallas, Texas; one brother, James Woods; one sister, Donna Woods; eight sisters-in-law - Josephine Wright, Eunice White, Evelyn Wright (Berry), Cassie Lewis, Kathern Tilley (J), Patricia Frazier (Jerry), Linda Hughlett, and Penny Waller; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of many fraternity brothers and friends.
