Thomas Matthew Young, 56, of Rockwall, Texas, passed away on April 28th, 2026, surrounded by family after a brave battle with cancer. Thomas was born January 30th, 1970, to Nathaniel and Gladys Young in Columbia, South Carolina. He spent his early years in Columbia, South Carolina, enjoying nature on his family farm with his siblings.
Thomas graduated from J.W. Keenan High School in 1988. He went on to work for Columbia Lumber and then Carolina Builders. In May of 1997, he started at TransAM, where he spent the rest of his career, eventually becoming the Director of Training and Development in 2011.
Thomas enjoyed multiple hobbies and creative pursuits throughout his lifetime, including grilling, making music, shooting pool, and creating content for his YouTube channel. In addition, he valued playing basketball and having family game nights. He enjoyed outdoor activities like ocean fishing off the coast of Florida with his wife, visiting zoos in every state, and taking on any new experience he came across. He was a true outdoorsman with a deep appreciation for animals and nature.
He was preceded in death by his father, Nathaniel Young; his beloved sister, Malinda Molden; and his grandparents.
He is survived by his wife, Stacey of Rockwall, Texas; his sons, Thomas "TJ" Young Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, Samson Young of Fate, Texas, and Matthew Young of Fate, Texas; his mother, Gladys Young of Columbia, South Carolina; his brothers, Brian Young of Columbia, South Carolina, Carlton Young of Sumpter, South Carolina, and Ronnie Hunter of Columbia, South Carolina; four step-children; ten grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Thomas was a fun and kind spirit who made those around him feel loved. He will be deeply missed and has inspired us all with his strength.
