Willie Harge Obituary

Willie Ray Harge, affectionately known as “Buddy,” was born on April 5, 1938, in Pittsburg, Texas, to Olenthia and Annie Harge. He was the second of seven children.

At an early age, his family relocated to Dallas, Texas, where his journey of faith began at Christian Chapel CME Church. A proud graduate of Booker T. Washington Technical High School, Buddy went on to serve honorably in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958.

Throughout his life, Willie was a dedicated and hardworking man. He built a career across the automotive, transportation, and construction industries—fields that suited his strong hands and strong work ethic. Known for his one-of-a-kind wit and signature sayings, Willie carried himself with sharp style and quiet confidence, often seen in his cowboy boots and hats, embodying the true spirit of a gentleman.

Willie lived life fully and simply, enjoying the peace and joy found in everyday pleasures. He loved fishing, golfing, gardening, riding his Harley motorcycle, watching Westerns, playing cards and dominoes, and listening to Blues and Western music. He had a well-known sweet tooth and was never one to turn down dessert. One of his favorite places to unwind was outside in his garage, where he spent many hours relaxing and enjoying good conversation with family, friends, and neighbors.

He was a man of faith with a steady presence. He was a source of strength to those around him.

Willie Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Annie and Olenthia Harge; his sisters, Patricia, Bobbie, and Carol; his brother, Richard; and his son, Ronald. Those left to cherish lasting memories and continue his legacy of love include his children, Lucretia, Ray, Kenneth (Gwen), Reginald, Sonja, Angela (Edirisa), and Taimeishia; his sister, Helen Bell; and his brother, Morrell Harge (Torill) of California. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 31 great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, a special cousin, Nancy James, and a bonus daughter, Shontra Varnado, of Louisiana.

Buddy’s life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing and loving him.
